the journey of my Coconut named Randy

Day 1: My organic item is a Coconut. She is very round and light brown with lots of hairs/fibers. Similarly to peach fuzz. The sound of my Coconut is the milk/water inside that splashes around when you shake it. Just like a milk or water jug. I can’t wait to cut it and drink the liquid and try the insides. I can’t tell if all of the brown on the outside is just the natural color or if it’s just dirt. There is a point at one and it reminds me of a dreidel with its rounded circular edges. I like Randy.

Day 3: I put Randy in the car and the heat made her crack open a little bit. I just got home from school so I am going to open it. The liquid is very bitter and is off white/clear. I put her in the fridge to cool off and then after some time I cut up a little of the inside of the Coconut. It is so bland and bitter. Not at all what I thought. I didn’t realize how artificial Coconut flavors are, especially in the store. I made an acai bowl and put some Coconut in it which was good. I will definitely stick to buying artificial pre cut coconuts.

  1. I loved that you named the coconut. I am a little confused on how the coconut is a girl but you named it Randy! Your writing is so silly. I am sorry your coconut tasted bad! We also had the same organic object so I relate to your writing a ton.

  2. The naming of the coconut was such a great idea. You did a great job of describing it so people could get an idea of what you are saying. I am shocked that the coconut was bland and bitter I would have thought that it would have been different.

  3. Abby, this line grabbed my attention: “I can’t tell if all of the brown on the outside is just the natural color or if it’s just dirt.” It’s like, how much are we getting into the ground, into nature here? The theme I discover plays out so nicely as you later decide, after eating and drinking a bit of the coconut, you’ll stick with the artificial flavors. So cool.

  4. I liked how your entries described the coconut. I can totally visualize the fruit because you used a lot of good adjectives. I also found your reaction to the taste surprising because I always thought that coconuts were really good. I guess that is just a myth.
