The gender pay gap for women civil engineers – Narrow the Gap  (scroll to the very bottom)

Why are only 13% of engineering jobs taken by women? Simply because they don’t get enough money to be doing the same thing a man is. Even though the US passed the Equal Pay Act, women still get paid significantly less than men. Since this act it is “unfair and illegal” to not pay women as much as men. “At this current pace, it will take until 2058 for women and men’s earnings to reach pay parity”, the US has passed an act but isn’t doing more to help equalize the pay gap. The US knows what is happening and has the power to change it, so why aren’t they? 

Why are there less women in engineering than men? Do women get paid less than men? Are there more jobs for “men” than for women? Are women not going into engineering because they know they aren’t going to get paid as much as men? Are there any engineering jobs that are predominantly women? Are there any engineering jobs that women get paid more or equal to men in the same field?

9/1 Today I bought a cactus pear at Wegmans. This cactus pear stood out to me at the store, and I just had to grab it. When I took it out of the bag it pricked me, so I put it down. I was sitting trying to get the prick out while it just sat there mocking me. It looks cool and bright colors; I’m wondering what the inside of the insulting cactus pear will look like. It is staying in the bag from now on because I can feel it taunting me and it doesn’t feel remorseful. I have not tied to settle this argument with it because I don’t think I deserved to be pricked. Maybe it thought I was going to eat it. If that’s the case, then I forgive it.

9/3 The cactus pear looks the same as yesterday, it has wrinkles on the top. On the other hand, it is getting duller in color, today it is pink/purple/red. On the bottom of the cactus pear, it looks like a root. The top of it looks like it is about to pop a head and start talking to me. Where it looks like the head is going it also looks like there are some spikes growing. I hope we haven’t’ taken a step backwards and it is putting up walls again. The rest of the cactus pear is still soft all around, but the top is growing three little prickly heads.
