This news article is about how The Rio 2016 Olympics athletes have a unique backstory on how the support of family, coaches, and their physical therapists have allowed them to have gained athletic success. The new advances of equipment for the use of training has played a major role for the athletes competing in the summer’s Olympic games. For example, wearable technology and applications for portable devices aka phones and tablets. These devices help provide helpful feedback to maximize each training session. Also using 3D camera technology, enhances and measures the athletes weight room sessions to capture power output for every repetition. Recovery strategies such as cold immersion baths are still used by athletes. However, with the increase of technology advancements athletes have found a way to use recovery strategies to increase the volume of oxygen in the blood.
This article helps with my thesis, which is how can modern technology and equipment help physical therapists help athletes to recover faster? The mentioning of the Olympics, and how athletes train for that has broadened my thinking on what could be used to help regular athletes for their sports. The different recovery strategies like cold immersion baths and the hyperbaric oxygen therapy are good strategies that should be implemented and can be advanced with the upcoming technology and equipment. Also the mention of the different advancements in technology like the wearable tech to help athletes with their training and feedback.
