Florida is proposing a bill to keep Daylight Savings Time for the entire year instead of switching the clocks twice a year. This is mainly because in the “Sunshine State,” people want to be outside for a longer period of time in the state. This is also good for the state to try and reduce crime and energy usage in the state. While keeping Daylight Savings Time is good for the residents and tourists, the change is mainly in concern to technology and how it can be difficult for technology to keep being connected with regions with different times to change their clocks, and some areas do not get to do their full 1 hour and instead only change their clocks 45 minutes.
While normally Florida is an area that has some interesting ideas and people, this change is a really good idea because there is no real point to changing the clocks. When it was created in the 1700s, daylight savings time was primarily for farmers as a way to keep the sun up for farmers to farm, as well as schools to be open longer into the night. However, life has drastically changed since then including the jobs we have, the technological improvements since then. Lifestyles have shifted from farming to office work and the application of electricity into lifestyles has caused the need for daylight savings time to be no longer important. Also the movement of lives being more connected than ever before requires the need for the world to be all on the same time.
