New York Times Video on Forensic Science Analysis

The video embedded above described how hair and fiber analyzing technology has been used for decades in the United States to prosecute criminals before DNA technology was discovered. My working thesis question is, “How has blood and other forms of DNA analyzing evolved in the administration of justice in the United States?” The video described stories of how hair and fiber analyzing has failed America by wrongly prosecuting thousands of innocent citizens. With the advancment of technology used in hair and fiber analysis, the accuracy of the results of the DNA tests was increased and innocent citizens were released. Hair analysis is not based on any statistics which makes it not nearly as accurate as modern day DNA matching used today. Hair and fiber analysis is not the most effective way of interpreting DNA evidence, but it was a revolutionary advance in forensic science and the prosecution of guilty in the United States.

Questioning Forensic Science

How is blood and other sources of DNA analyzing technology advancing? Is it leading to more criminal cases being solved? How accurate is this technology? How does this technology work? How expensive is the use of this technology? Why is the technology not always accurate? Why is this science called forensics?

Miss Slimcado

September 1st, 2022

The interesting fruit I chose was a slimcado. My fruit is green mostly with brown spots. Looking at it now, I’m starting to worry it’s going bad already. I’m hoping it doesn’t start to smell or get mushy. My slimcado is about double the size of a normal avocado despite them being very similar. My slimcado is special in many ways to me; I believe she has character. I believe this beause of the great health benefits, compared to a tradional avocado, and she is non-gmo. Nonethless, these aren’t the only reasons the slimcado is special to me. The imperfactions, like the many bumps and bruises, are what makes my fruit feel special to me. I want to cut it open and see if it similar to an avocado on the insdie.

My slimcado and I bonded together with ease. I even refered to it as a she in my pervious entries. AFter learning so much about the slimcado through my journal entires, I began to feel like I really knew my fruit. On the other hand, the worst part of this experience was seeing my slimcado go bad. I didn’t like carrying around my rotting, brusied, stinky fruit around even though it was in a bag. Well, I suppose I didn’t have to leave it in my backpack. I should’ve probably taken it out. My slimcado is in a better place now.
