The sweet potato has a bland color, worn away from its battles with the soil. Maybe that’s why the edges are so rough, or why there are cracks in the skin. Fending off unwanted visitors like worms from enjoying a nice meal. This all goes unseen by humans, as the sweet potato is a mighty gladiator. Doing whatever it takes to survive. It stretches its roots feverishly hungry to grow and when the sweet potato encounters a road block, it overcomes, solving problems with its intelligence. The combination of the brains and brawn of the sweet potato make it one of the feared objects in Earth’s underworld.

The sweet potatoes’ earthy smell sheds a new light into its feelings. A boring and sad life awaits the dreary sweet potato, but that is what the sweet potato wants to portray. It hides its true self on the inside. On the inside, the sweet potato has a nice, mushy, vibrancy to it awaiting to break free from its dull outer features. But until that day the Sweet Potato will live with the portrayal of a boring life until it decides the time is right to show its true flavor. The sweet potatoes distorted shape further mystifies the vegetable that is capable of more than meets the eye.
I think the elevated diction utilized really emphasizes the details made about the sweet potato. I like how you compared its physical appearance from the inside and outside and made a connection to a portayal of life.
I like how you created an image to make the sweet potato seem like a warrior. The mention of “its battles with the soil” was a nice touch that really amplified the affect. A soft mushy vegetable that many would never think of as tough was portrayed as just that. Great work.
I really enjoyed your take on bring the sweet potato to life, it made the entries interesting and set your writings apart from everyone elses.
I love your diction, description, and thoughts about your sweet (potato). The detail you described about the battles it fought was very moving. I am glad your sweet (potato) got saved by you and hope it bright colors on the inside were able to shine through.
Amazing! you made some really unique connections. It was actually interesting to read. Love the part about it being an underground fighter and stuff.
I like the comparisons you made, which in my opinion really made the story come to life. For example, I like how you compared the potato to a gladiator. That was a really clever comparison that honestly makes me want to eat a potato.
Thank you for commenting Jake!
“The combination of the brains and brawn of the sweet potato make it one of the feared objects in Earth’s underworld.” That’s strong writing, and very well deserved after the great build-up to it in your first entry. I love how you establish the sweet potato’s intelligence by describing how it deals with road-blocks (presumably, rocks, bricks, tree roots, etc.). Talk about food for thought!
