The article I chose to read was, “People globally offer mixed views of the impact of artificial intelligence, job automation on society.” In this article, there were multiple tables and graphs of global opinions of whether they are fans of artificial intelligence and job automation. The article summarized the results of the graphs: among Asian countries, they had more positive feelings towards artificial intelligence and automation, while most “Western” countries were split 50/50. People with a higher level of education also voted more in favor of automation and artificial intelligence. Age also played a role in their views, as younger people favored advancing technology more than older people.
I think the results are skewed in this way because in Asia, they favor efficiency over jobs, while in areas such as the United States, they favor the creation of jobs, so when automation and artificial intelligence takes away jobs from the people, there is much bigger backlash. I feel like younger people have better views on artificial intelligence and automation because it is cooler and also they are not personally involved in the workforce where jobs are being replaced, so they are not as involved in the topic. Educated people also would vote in favor because they purely look at the statistics and usually hold jobs that do not get replaced by automation.
Hello Logan, I found your insight very insightful I however in your actual essay see if you could back up your claim about the people of Asia favoring efficiency with another article. I also would try to delve a little deeper in to the difference between younger and older people’s opinions more than it is cooler. This might be a interesting topic to look deeper into.
The quote “younger people preferred advancing technology more than older people” was a fantastic detail. Your research paper may appeal to more people if you include this quote because it expands its audience. Because you can then play both sides—the older generation versus the younger generation—this will help to make your argument stronger. I also enjoyed how you discussed the Asian population as a different demographic in your research. Your ability to juxtapose the two competing ideologies about artificial intelligence cohesively, in my opinion, is what makes your argument so compelling.
At first, when I was reading the summary, I wondered why Asian countries had more positive feelings towards artificial intelligence and automation than most “Western” countries. But, after reading your reaction, I really liked how you answered the “why,” which is that Asia prefers more efficiency in comparison to US’s desire to simply create jobs. I wonder how both groups view these possibilities on an economic scale and why they think one is superior to the another- I think that would be something cool to explore in addition to what you are doing. Overall, really nice job!
I found it really interesting to see that Asian countries more often favored automation and artificial intelligence more than Western countries as it occurred to me that there are more labor driven jobs in Asian countries than Western countries as a result of lack of pay. This is evident with companies like Apple and Tesla building their factories in China in order to receive a bigger profit as a result of hard labor being more viable in these countries than, for example, the United States. As a result, I was really surprised to see that the Asian countries supported automation as I fully expected to be the other way around. I am excited to see where you will take this in the future.
I enjoyed reading about your summary of the artificial intelligence article as I could relate to it as well. I think I would agree with the statement that young people would prefer to have more artificial intelligence as I would like this myself. It is interesting to see how artificial intelligence makes jobs much more efficient, yet people are still dissenting over the use of it.
I find this topic very insightful regarding artificial intelligence. The source that you found tends to work out right in your favor as it looks into the depths of two countries/ages and why they have opinions on AI the way they do. I think one subtopic you could also look into is gender or any other differences which may work well in your essay while overviewing the advancements of AI and why different people have different opinions and make a correlation from there. Overall, I like the topic as it deals with the public concern of our advancing technology which will be heavily talked about maybe in the near future.
I thought your analysis of the different demographics that support or don’t support automation was very interesting. I wonder if there are even more reasons that these groups have these opinions? For instance, could younger people be more supportive of new advancements in technology because they are more used to new technology than older people, so they just see it as another step forward rather than something more extreme?
As the world grows more advanced, A.I. is sure to be at the forefront of topics. For that reason, I find your topic choice very interesting and entertaining. I love the insight you provided in the first line of your analysis; I never would’ve thought expected that to be the reason why the two societies have different opinions, but it makes perfect sense. I am looking forward to see how you incorporate opposing viewpoints into your article. Overall, great job!
