Cucamelons are Boring

The cucamelon looks like a miniature watermelon, although I’ve been told that they are not related. The ones I have are very small and slightly squishy, and I am tempted to try and taste them. I don’t know what they may taste like, though for some reason I think they are slightly minty. Their stripes, alternating between a pale and rich green, seem nearly identical to a watermelon. They have nearly no smell, and I wonder what could be made with these.

Even after a few days, the only thing that comes to mind when I look at this fruit is its similarity to a watermelon. I expect to see a juicy red interior when I cut into it, but after doing so I know that it has a green interior with lots of seeds arranged in rows. I have yet to taste it, though I may save that for my next entry. As I try to characterize the shape of the fruit, my brain keeps landing on the shape of a Mighty Bean. Mighty Beanz are these little toys, almost shaped like a very large pill. What’s interesting to me is I never even had these toys as a child, I had just seen them at other people’s houses. I’m really reaching for some sort of comparison because this fruit is pretty boring to me.

  1. My pepino is very similar to your fruit since it was also a melon, and looked like a watermelon. I thought that it was very cool how you related your fruit to “Mighty Beans.” Something that was important to your childhood.

  2. Jonathan, you’re doing the right thing here. The “Mighty Bean” seems to crowd out any other thoughts, so it needs to be written about. You do that so nicely here: “As I try to characterize the shape of the fruit, my brain keeps landing on the shape of a Mighty Bean. Mighty Beanz are these little toys, almost shaped like a very large pill. What’s interesting to me is I never even had these toys as a child, I had just seen them at other people’s houses.” I love where your description takes you here.
