Women are Underpaid in Many Different Jobs

The gender pay gap for women civil engineers – Narrow the Gap  (scroll to the very bottom)

Why are only 13% of engineering jobs taken by women? Simply because they don’t get enough money to be doing the same thing a man is. Even though the US passed the Equal Pay Act, women still get paid significantly less than men. Since this act it is “unfair and illegal” to not pay women as much as men. “At this current pace, it will take until 2058 for women and men’s earnings to reach pay parity”, the US has passed an act but isn’t doing more to help equalize the pay gap. The US knows what is happening and has the power to change it, so why aren’t they?

  1. I love how you brought to light the how serious this topic is and how major a problem it is. I liked how you are questioning why they have not changed anything yet when they are more than capable of doing so.

  2. That is a great question you bring up. Why are women underpaid for the same job? I personally know women who are underpaid for doing the same job men are all over the STEM fields. This is a very important topic. Your writing is good all I would have to say is maybe to expand on the idea. I would love to hear more. You state it is illegal. Are women going through the law to cut down the companies that are paying them less? What are these underpaid women doing to be heard?

  3. I think this is a great topic for this research project. Women getting paid less than men is not talked about enough. This will be very informing to people which is great because then they will be aware of what’s going on in the world.

  4. It’s refreshing to see someone bring up this topic, because I feel like it is often forgotten. I knew it would take a while for men and women to get paid equally, but I never imagined it would take until 2058. I think the paper you write will be interesting, because there is a lot to say about this subject.

  5. This is a very big topic and I’m glad that someone is brave enough to bring it up. This is very problematic and has a lot of meaning behind it. I do believe that women are underpaid and overworked. We could work and even do better than men and we would still be undermined.
