8/31/2022- I notice my lychee sitting and looking so frail because of how small it is. I remember when I was a kid and would think the spikes would hurt if I were to touch it. It has always reminded me of a Sea Urchin, at the bottom of an ocean, because of all the spikes covering its body. It is starting to get dry because it has been sitting in my fridge for a while. It is losing its color on one of the side; however, if someone was to see it, they would think it isn’t edible. On the inside, it contains a sweet taste with a white jelly surrounding the black seed. At first glance, people wouldn’t know about the sweetness inside, until they open it and the fragrance is overwhelming your nose. They are left with the sweetness in their mouth, and they spit out the black dark seed.
9/2/22- It is currently 11:25 p.m., and I just got my lychee from my mini fridge. I think the shell hardened. The color is still the same, but I feel sadness reflecting off of it. Before I started writing, I was eating a lychee cup, and it just made me remember how simple life was, when I was a child. I had no thoughts; I would enjoy my lychee for the satisfaction and sweetness from it. The outer jelly part had the texture of jello, but the inner had chewy white cubes. The cubes were the best part. I’ve just been starting at it and reflecting how different life is now. I wish I could just be that simply lychee cup again, but I have started on the next chapter of the lychee life. I sat on my bed having worries about succeeding in life. I cannot be a simple lychee. I don’t understand how it hasn’t gone bad yet. It’s been in my fridge for so long. I guess it has a stronger shell then what I imagined. It doesn’t smell like anything but when I open it, I will be overwhelmed with the burst of my childhood. For now, I will ponder on my lychee cup and question how a small fruit could tell a strong story.
I love how you described how the Lychee tasted and looked like. Also, I too thought as a child that the spikes would hurt. I like how you gave the lychee emotions based of the appearance. The way you spilled your brain thoughts all while looking at a lychee is awesome.
Thank you Tiffany ! I appreciate you taking your time to read my entries!
I love the comparison of childhood and your lychee. It gives the reader a sense reflection. The description of the jello cup and how it relates to a simpler time when things were carefree it gave your excerpt bounce.
Thank you for seeing the comparison I was making to my childhood!
Audrey, I like the liquid connection that moves us from the ocean to your fridge: “It has always reminded me of a Sea Urchin, at the bottom of an ocean, because of all the spikes covering its body. It is starting to get dry because it has been sitting in my fridge for a while.” The childhood memories the lychee evoked were quite strong. It could serve as your childhood artifact!
Thank you Mr. Stephens ! I enjoyed allowing my thoughts to flow onto my paper.
I love how you show the point of view that other people have on lychee, and how they think it’s inedible or eccentric. Also I like how you presented your observation of the lychee as it started to get old. The way you describe the taste of the lychee was so pleasant 🙂
Thank you Jayla!! I loved showing you the observations that I made.
