I came across an article that speaks about the effects resulting from the use of technology. Reading this gave me a sense of direction in starting my research project. The convenient part of this is that not only does it give explanations that are easily followed, but it’s also a great mix of evidence and thoughtfulness. Because the essay was well organized in a format of problem to solution, I was able to get many ideas to support my topic; furthermore, the author’s way of speaking to the reader is worthy of being noted. Throughout the process of reading this article, the author switched through scientific explanation as well as supportive speech. For example, when the author considered technologies’ dangerous effect on pleasure, he began by proving why this is true. After this was fulfilled, the author took the time to provide beneficial advice to the reader. This gives me the sense that the author isn’t simply throwing details; instead, through the thoughtful tips provided, a feeling of care is established between the reader and the writer.
At first, I had trouble finding a reasonable question to look into with regard to keeping it simplistic and insightful; however, as I came across this article, a helpful mix of every factor is presented to me: Evidence, reasoning, and author’s tone. Using this as an example, I have a clear view as to what I want to research. For one, I have general understanding on the correlation between technology and brain development. And with this understanding, I can shift my research question into a more digestible topic to look in to. Finally, I can dig deeper with research, and, potentially, build onto what was presented to me in this article. In other words, I see this article as an example as well as a foundation for my research.

I like how you view the article as a foundation for you research. I think that’s a smart thing to do that way you don’t have to start from nothing and can instead use something else to make the base of your research stronger.

I think technology can have an effect on our brains and the way they develop. However, in the time we’re in right now, the use of technology is prevalent. Everyone is going to use technology and I do not think that will change anytime soon. Instead our use will probably grow.
