The Most Bizarre Fruit

Entry #1

This fruit is just over the top. First of all, the color is unique in comparison to other vegetation. But also, it has features that resemble scales. I can see why it’s called the “Dragon fruit.” This fruit reminds me of a rose. I think it’s because of the similar color alongside the peddle-like features that give me that thought. This fruit looks so odd that I wonder if animals feel comfortable eating this in the wild. It disappoints me to see such a bright fruit begin to rot on my desk. But before that, however, I would love to see how it looks on the inside.

Entry #2

Now that my Dragon fruit is getting more squishy, I can tell it’s time is coming to an end. Although it’s growing old, it still retains it’s gorgeous color. Before this fruit rots too much,  I want to see how it looks like on the inside. I cut it in half and the first thing I notice is the mixture of black seeds in a white background. This sight makes me think of a night sky with inverted colors. As if the sky took the color of the stars, and the stars take the darkness of the sky. This really is a beautiful sight to see. I take a closer look and there are a bunch of randomly placed strings. I wonder if these are like the veins of the fruit. I also can’t help but notice how perfectly split the red and the white are. With all this, I can easily say the inside is much more mesmerizing than the outside. Although the Dragon fruit has a beautiful red skin, the inside just leaves me with way more questions. I can tell that when it’s time to throw my Dragon fruit away, I will have the feeling of unanswered questions being thrown out.

  1. I like how you compare the fruit to a rose and how you compared it to a night sky. The tone of the writing is very thoughtful. The night sky comparison is especially unique and really made me think.

  2. I like the comparison of the inside of the dragon fruit to the night sky, also, I like how you are very descriptive of the interior of the dragon fruit. I can envision how to fruit looks and feels through your writing.

  3. What a great mix of description and watching the mind at work. One of my favorite observations: “This sight makes me think of a night sky with inverted colors. As if the sky took the color of the stars, and the stars take the darkness of the sky.” Wow! And I think your blog’s header image reinforces that somehow. (For such a loud fruit, the dragon fruit seems to have little flavor — to me, anyway . . .)

  4. Thank you for all your comments to my post. At some times, I didn’t quite know where to go with my descriptions, but now I feel like I’m somewhat able to make descriptive writing.
