Blogging Challenge- Week Three

Hello everyone! It’s Emma, back for week three of the Student Blogging Challenge! The challenge for this week is Fun with Photos. I decided to post one of my drawings. The drawing I used was originally for day 7 of Inktober this year (click here to learn more about Inktober). I wrote a short little story about it below.

I stood at the edge of the cliff, the grass tickling my bare feet. Peeking over the edge, I saw the crystal blue ocean glittering below, reflecting the bright sunlight. It’s not too far of a drop, I decided. I could see the smaller details of the beach from up here, where kids had built sandcastles and I sat down, letting my feet dangle over the edge. A cool breeze blew in from the ocean, calming my mind. I sat for a moment, kicking my feet, until I felt my shoe fall of my foot. I scrambled closer to the edge and watched it fall. It hit the water below with a soft plop. Oh boy, I thought, what am I going to tell my parents? I sat watching the still water for a minute until I saw a disturbance in the waves. Glancing down, I saw the small outline of a person popping out of the water. They picked up my shoe and examined it, looking awfully perplexed. They must have felt me staring, because they looked up. We locked eyes for a moment, and I didn’t dare breathe. My heart rate picked up. I’d only read about their kind in books. Was this my chance to finally meet one? A minute passed, and I watched them dive back under the water, disappointed. Wearing only one shoe, I headed back home, wondering if I blew my one and only chance to meet a mermaid.

Blogging Challenge- Week Two

Hello! It’s Emma. Week two of the Student Blogging Challenge has begun! I can’t believe we’re already two weeks in! The week two challenge is about commenting. I worked with my classmate Zoran (link to his blog here) to make a video about commenting. We used a super-easy program called Biteable.

A-Z: Crazy Childhood Story

A-Z: Crazy Childhood Story

A crazy story from my weird childhood.

Hello there, fellow humans. I have one amazing story to tell you. I barely remember it, but it’s been retold so many times in my family I know it perfectly. Me and my sister, Lily, were about six years old at the time. We had these cool little toys of Disney Princesses, and we were playing with them.

One thing you need to know: The dolls came with little clothes and shoes to dress them up in. The shoes were very small, an easy size for children to swallow or stick somewhere they shouldn’t. Not the best idea for a children’s toy.

So, Lily and I are playing, and, I don’t know what she was thinking, maybe she thought it would be funny, but she grabs a tiny green Tiana shoe and goes,

“Emma, I’m gonna stick this up my nose!”

I’m thinking, What the heck, Lily, where’d you get that idea? Don’t do it.

She did it.

“…Mommy!”

We run over and tell her what Lily did.

“Okay,” Mommy says, “Just don’t sniff.”

Lily sniffs. Hard. “‘Kay.”

Mommy mutters something under her breath and calls Daddy, who rushes home. We pile into the car and head to the emergency room. They tell us “It’s not an emergency” and “they can’t help us.” Like, I understand, but excuse me? We went to another emergency room which could take us, and they used this big machine to suck it out of her nose. Neither Lily nor I enjoyed the process of getting the shoe out, even though it was quick. I really don’t know why I didn’t like it. Remember, I was only six, so I don’t remember it very well. Maybe it’s because we’re twins, and she didn’t like it, so I didn’t like it.

Either way, the shoe came out and it was all okay.

That was my unusual childhood story that I only vaguely remember. My sister and I are just weird like that.

Do you have any xeno- (strange) stories from your childhood? Leave me a comment and a link to your blog so I can return the favor! Thanks for reading, but I gotta zoom off now!

All About Me

All About Emma

Nine interesting facts about me!

  • I am a twin. I have an identical twin sister named Lily, who shares a lot of my interests. She’s my best friend and I get a lot of my ideas for stories, drawings, and animations from her. She even helped me name this blog!
  • I’m a dancer. I take dance classes three times a week, and have been for almost eleven years. I do ballet, jazz, and pointe. Don’t ask me to pick a favorite! I really enjoy different aspects of each style, but I really like learning choreography. It’s very difficult, but I love it and it’s really shaped who I am.
  • I’ve never been out of the country. I have never been out of the United States in my life, or been further west than Kentucky, for that matter. If I could travel anywhere out of the U.S., I would love to go to Greece, or to visit New York again.
  • I’m a huge book nerd and fangirl. I love reading and probably fangirl a little too much for my health. Right now I’m reading the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, the Alex and Eliza trilogy by Melissa de la Cruz, and the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson.
  • I’m a writer. I love writing stories, and I have so many ideas I want to write about. I hope to get published when I’m older, if I can stick to an idea. I keep starting a story, getting bored of it, and dropping it. I’ve really only stuck with one (my first), and I’m even on hiatus from that. I shift interests quickly, and I can never seem to stick with one plot.
  • I’m an artist. I love drawing and art of any kind. I work digitally with my drawing tablet at home, and traditionally in a sketchbook, printer paper, the back of schoolwork, or any paper, really. Currently, I prefer digital drawing. The things you can do with layer styles and changing the opacity make it so much easier to, for example, make something look like it’s glowing. Not to mention line art is worlds easier with that undo button!
  • I’m an animator. …okay, not really. I would love to make animatics and animations, but I can never seem to finish one. Similarly to my writing, I loose interest and drop it. If I can ever finish one, I hope to make a YouTube channel in the future where I can post them, along with speedpaints.
  • I’m a big fan of Broadway musicals. I love Broadway (and other) musicals and am currently obsessed with the soundtracks of Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, along with BeetlejuiceMean Girls, and Six, to name a few. If you find art on my blog (I promise you will), it’s probably fanart of a musical.
  • I’m an okay singer. I like to think I don’t sound like a dying animal when I sing. I’ve definitely improved my singing over the years, and my friends keep telling me I’m good, but I don’t know. I know for a fact that I’m not the best, but I really enjoy it. You can often find me in my bedroom, belting songs like “For Forever” from Dear Evan Hansen or “Heart of Stone” from Six. I really only sing show tunes.
