Holiday Traditions!

Hello, lively listeners! No matter how you worship or celebrate, we all have traditions we carry out during the holidays. Since so many holidays are coming up, I thought I’d talk about five things my family does during the holidays.

  1. Baking Cookies

One of my favorite things we do during the holidays is baking cookies! Most of our recipes have been passed down from my grandmother, so they are all very special to me. We make a bunch of different cookie types, and they complete the holidays. It wouldn’t be a celebration if I didn’t sneak a plateful of cookies past my mom. One of my all-time favorite recipes is Scrumptious Bars. You can make it for yourself here!

         2. Holiday Lights

Sometimes during this special season, my family and I drive around the neighborhood looking for decorations and lights. I love seeing all the decorations, and my family and I like talking about which houses’ decorations we like the best.  I always help my dad put up our lights, and it gets me in a cheery mood.

  1.   Giving Gifts

I always get super excited about ordering or shopping for gifts for my family and friends. Although I’m not the greatest at wrapping, I still love slapping a big bow on it and seeing their face when they open it.

I have a funny story about this too! When I was about 4, I sat on Santa’s lap, and he asked what my sister wanted for Christmas because she was too scared to sit on his lap. I panicked and said the first thing I saw. Lights. So on Christmas, my sister opened a gift, and it was a box of holiday lights. We still joke about it to this day!

  1.   Advent Calendars

Every year since I was a kid, my grandmother has bought me an advent calendar to countdown the days to Christmas. I would get to eat a piece of chocolate or candy every morning until Christmas. It was so fun finding the right day on the board. Even though the chocolate was rarely any good, it still reminds me of the holidays and my family.

  1.   Holiday Music

On the first day of December, we always start playing holiday music. It is so fun dancing along to all of the cheery songs we know by heart. I would dance around our living room with my sister for hours listening to our favorite songs. It makes me so happy, and I would love to hear what your favorite songs are this time of year.

Thank you so much for reading! I love the holiday season, and I hope you have a wonderful one this year. Don’t forget to tell me about your favorite traditions in the comments below!

  1. Happy New Year, Angelina!

We can put 2020 behind us at last. Thanks for sharing five of your holiday favorites. Similar to you, I grew up with a family who piled into the station wagon, Christmas music blaring, and drove slowly around the neighborhood admiring lights. There were certain houses we couldn’t miss…the one with a rooftop, life-size Santa in his sleigh pulled by eight reindeer. This was custom-made by the homeowner and on display every year. There was also the resident artist’s house, which boasted a skating rink with dancing penguins and skaters, all hand-constructed, painted, and animated with a various collection of gears beneath the skating rink surface. It was ingenious!

I think decorating the outside and inside of our own home is one of my favorite family traditions. I have a huge collection of snowmen, three trees, and all kinds of colorful outdoor lights. This year, we added a 16-foot long Santa in an airplane that pulls the message “Merry Christmas.” I love it! I’m thinking I need to keep the red and white lights, add pink, and order a Valentine’s blow-up to keep the lights on! 🙂

    Happy 2021!
