The 100 Word Challenge Begins…

100 Word Challenge: Week One

This week, the  2021 100 Word Challenge started, and my Communications class enthusiastically took part. The inaugural writing prompt was very simple: To incorporate the following three-word phrase into a 100-word post: …everything stopped and…

I gave my students 15 minutes to write, and the results are as unique and special as these writers’ personalities. Today, I present a sampling of their posts. At the bottom, I’ve added hyperlinks to all their student blogs. Enjoy these young people’s voices and visions.

Please leave us a comment…either here or on my students’ individual blogs. We’ll be here every week. Stop by and say hello!

The‌ ‌ticking‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌clock‌ ‌grows‌ ‌relentlessly‌ ‌louder.‌ ‌Tick,‌ ‌tock,‌ ‌tick,‌ ‌tock.‌ ‌It’s‌ ‌like‌ ‌a‌ ‌nail‌ ‌is‌ ‌being‌‌
driven‌ ‌into‌ ‌my‌ ‌head,‌ ‌distracting‌ ‌and‌ ‌intrusive.‌ ‌I‌ ‌stare‌ ‌up‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌ceiling,‌ ‌eyes‌ ‌unfocused.‌‌
Everything‌ ‌looks‌ ‌blurry.‌ ‌A‌ ‌car‌ ‌passes‌ ‌outside‌ ‌the‌ ‌window.‌ ‌Suddenly,‌ ‌tires‌ ‌squeal‌ ‌against‌ ‌the‌‌
pavement.‌ ‌Everything‌ ‌is‌ ‌eerily‌ ‌quiet.‌ ‌The‌ ‌clock‌ ‌has‌ ‌fallen‌ ‌silent.‌ ‌I‌ ‌stand‌ ‌up,‌ ‌looking‌ ‌out‌ ‌the‌‌
window‌ ‌and‌ ‌gasping.‌ ‌‌Everything‌ ‌stopped,‌ ‌and‌‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌almost‌ ‌too‌ ‌quiet.‌ ‌Snowflakes‌ ‌suspended‌‌
in‌ ‌the‌ ‌air,‌ ‌the‌ ‌nearby‌ ‌river‌ ‌stilled,‌ ‌cars‌ ‌just‌ ‌seconds‌ ‌from‌ ‌crashing‌ ‌into‌ ‌each‌ ‌other.‌ ‌The‌ ‌entire‌‌
world‌ ‌is‌ ‌paused.‌ ‌Everything‌ ‌except‌ ‌for‌ ‌me.‌
That was my first post for the 100 Word Challenge. Thanks for reading!Grace

Everything stopped, and the silence was deafening. He was lost in the old museum, surrounded by priceless artifacts and disintegrating skeletons. There wasn’t a single sound, not even the chirping of the midnight crickets from the open window.

He knew she was there, waiting for him to creep out from behind the stone pillar. He didn’t want to lose, to disappear, but that seemed to be the only option.

“You can do this. It won’t hurt. You know that.” he told himself, but he wasn’t sure he actually believed it. Sweat dripped from his face as he stepped out anyway.  Angelina

Everyday the world is changing. Leaves fall, flowers bloom.  But one thing that hasn’t changed is you.  Imagine if everything stopped and you had a day to do anything you wanted before time started again.  What would you do?  How would you spend your time?  Would you stick to the same routine you always do, or would you experience as much as you can?  Why waste what you have when you can change your life for the better.  Bloom into your own beautiful flower.  Be the best that you can be, and change for yourself and the world around you. –  Keeley

When Covid-19 came to our area and it kept getting worse and worse everything stopped and nothing happened. That’s just it nothing happened whatsoever, kids stopped going to school, people stopped working, people would even die and we could do nothing about it. We just waited and hoped it would get better all while doing nothing. Then people started working from home or going into work some days and kids started doing school online, it still felt like we were doing nothing. To this day it still feels like we are doing nothing but sitting there waiting to do something. – Bella
