Work in Progress/Finished Pieces

Blog Post 2 – Process

So far, I only have one hand (mostly) done for my final project. Considering the point that I am at, I’m very pleased with where my piece is going so far. I’ve decided that during this project I greatly want to embrace the “dirty brush” by limiting the amount of times I clean my brush. For this project, I’m also experimenting in using bright colors (such as blue, red, and purple) rather than actual skin tones for shadows.

Going into this year I’m hoping to keep a looser approach to my art.  On top of this, I also want work harder to push my shadows this year in my pieces. After pushing my boundaries last year in AP Art for my portfolio, I want to continue to push them further this year. Fingers crossed that this project sets me off on the right foot for my goals!

  1. The hand looks so realistic! I can see that the shadows on the hand gives out a lot of value in the piece. I also think that it’s pretty cool approaching the piece with “dirty brush”. I think I’d also like to experiment that method on a future piece for me. The clouds in the background looks really texture, including the hand. Overall, I also agree with you going on the right directions. Can’t wait to see you future pieces!

  2. I love the shading on the hand and how it’s more blue toned. I would say, however, that the white background diverts attention from your subject and so I would suggest toning it down a little.

  3. I am really impressed with where you are going with this and I think that it looks amazing so far. I think that your use of blues and reds was a really good choice because it added realistic shadows to the skin tone. The proportions look great and also there is obvious attention to detail in the hand. Additionally, I think that using a looser technique really benefitted your shading and gave it a more stylized look. Great work so far and I can’t wait to see how this turns out!
