Sketchbook Spread 4.2

This is based on my last sketchbook spread. I used ink and watercolor. for the left side, I drew each building separately and on the right side, I drew each building on top of each other. For my final, I’m thinking about using more houses and using acrylic or gouache for more vibrant colors.

Sketchbook 3.2

For my third piece, I have the idea of doing a more mixed media piece. This is kind of a bad example but this is the main street in my grandma’s home town. I did the buildings in ink and then printed out the cars from the reference photo. Then, I used old newspaper clippings from the hometown’s local newspaper. I also had the idea of creating the piece on…

Artwork #1 reflection

This artwork isn’t quite finished yet but I like the direction it’s heading. It’s based on a photo my dad took in his family’s home town in Missouri. I wanted to convey a sense of nostalgia and youth. I used more muted, calming colors in order to achieve that effect. I added some wildflowers, which weren’t in the original photo, to make the composition more interesting and I used purple…

Sketchbook Spread 2.2

This post mainly focuses on artist inspiration. I found four different artists that had similar work to my sustained inquiry and that I enjoyed. Most of these artists are impressionists or have a similar painting style. I especially enjoyed the artist Harold Gregor. Even though he was creating simple landscapes he used interesting compositions such as a panorama and an overhead shot of the landscape.

Sketchbook Spread 2.1

For this sketchbook spread, I did two different media studies of the barn from the last sketchbook spread. One is ink, and the other is acrylic. I decided on acrylic even though I like the texture of the barn better in Ink, I think color will play a big role in conveying the right emotion in my final. For the final, I would like to use more muted colors than…

Sketchbook spread 1.2

For my second sketchbook spread, I did some general brainstorming on the left. I used a reference photo of a field and then wrote some ideas for my sustained inquiry over top of it, including medias I would like to use and other family photos. On the right, I did some thumbnail sketches and a media study with watercolor and ink. I decided on the angled barn instead of the…

1st Sketchbook Spread

Here is my first sketchbook spread! This spread is based off one of the reference photos of my dad as a child in his grandparents’ living room. I may use this picture for inspiration through my sustained inquiry. I used the primary colors from the photo for the colors of the spread and then I chose small items from the picture to pain such as the leg, the really poorly…
