1st Sketchbook Spread

Here is my first sketchbook spread! This spread is based off one of the reference photos of my dad as a child in his grandparents’ living room. I may use this picture for inspiration through my sustained inquiry. I used the primary colors from the photo for the colors of the spread and then I chose small items from the picture to pain such as the leg, the really poorly drawn child, and the owl in the top right corner. I used mixed media with watercolor, acrylic, and collage for this spread.

  1. This is such an interesting idea for sustained inquiry! I love it! I really like the collage feel of your spread. I also think that you should def continue to use primary colors in your actual pieces. It creates a dynamic contrast. Like Mrs. Ebhardt said in her comment, I think it’d be cool to see the original reference photos. But other than that great spread layout!

  2. I really like your theme. It reminds of just nostalgia in general.
Are you planning to make the artwork in watercolor? If so, I feel like you can make it more photo like, or make it resemble something worn out (if you want to go for that theme of reuse and nostalgia).

    Great work. 😀

  3. Wow! Your collage is visually pleasing to look at! I know that you mentioned that it was supposed to be a child, but it kinda reminds me of a doll! With the vibrant colors you used it also made me think of Toy Story. Since it’s based off of a photo you can really emphasize on livelihood of the child’s expression. Can’t wait to see your final piece!
