After a steady decline in COVID-19 cases, a new surge is beginning once more as cases rise again. As more people show desperation for a return to normalcy, more people have been ignoring COVID-19 precautions. Especially in areas that are a hot spot for spring break, like Miami, cases are on the rise. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said at a media briefing that there were about 57,000 cases per day from the most seven-day average of COVID-19 cases. That’s an increase of about 7% from the previous week.
While many people think that the threat of the virus has decreased since vaccines have been given to the public, it should be kept in mind that only 14% of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. However, this has not stopped states from easing their COVID-19 restriction and opening up more to the public.
