Holidays & Festivities

Hey, everyone! It’s getting colder, and lights are going up around my neighborhood. As you can see in the picture, even my dog Sam is ready for Christmas. Of course, it’s going to look very different this year because of COVID-19. My family and I have been in quarantine for a couple of weeks, so it’s safe for my grandparents to come visit. We’ll watch Christmas movies, drink hot chocolate, and exchange presents. I’m really looking forward to it. In my blog post today, I’ve decided to write about my favorite Christmas songs and movies.

Generally, I have three Christmas songs that I could listen to year-round: Christmas Lights by Coldplay, Christmas Tree Farm by Taylor Swift, and Christmas Treat by Julian Casablancas. Listening to Christmas Lights is a tradition in my family. We watch the video every year, and then it really starts to feel like Christmas. This song makes me feel so nostalgic. I’ve been listening to it for as long as I can remember. I only first listened to Christmas Tree Farm this year, in June or July, and it always makes me feel really happy. I love Taylor Swift (on that topic, her new album Evermore is AMAZING). Finally, Christmas Treat is a song I remember listening to but didn’t know the name of until this year. It’s a rendition of an SNL skit, and always gets me excited for Christmas. I definitely recommend listening to all of these songs.

My two favorite Christmas movies are Elf and Home Alone. My family watches Elf on Thanksgiving every single year. They consider it the start of the Christmas season, but I’d prefer to wait until December. Christmas has never been my favorite holiday, yet I LOVE Home Alone. The movie is very quotable (“Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!”), it’s hilarious, and the scene where the robbers are falling for Kevin’s traps always has me in stitches.

What are your favorite Christmas songs and movies? Let me know in the comments and drop your URL. Happy holidays!

    Hi Grace –
I flipped your bow-topped pup for you. It’s an easy fix that I can show you when we’re back in class after winter break. Remind me at the end of class so I can show you the edit icon that allows you to flip or crop photos.

I hope your quarantined Christmas with your grandparents was a great success–everyone stayed healthy and enjoyed the family togetherness! I hadn’t listened to Taylor Swift’s Christmas Tree Farm song until you shared the link, so thank you! As for me, I think “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” might be my favorite, mostly because we had a Santa for years that would dance to this fun song. I remember my toddlers standing in front of the Santa and mimicking his jerky hip swings.

    Happy 2021!
