Blog Post #2 (Hurricane Katrina Response)

The article I found was “The response to Hurricane Katrina” by Donald P. Moynihan. The paper describes all the turmoil that was occuring in the early 2000s and how even with all of those events, the disaster response was severely lacking. He backs up his claim with evidence and statistics. This paper is extremely helpful because it demonstrates another persons perspective on the same subject with the same opinion. This can help me fully form my opinion as well as backing it up with facts. He also has a ton of useful statistics that I could use in my paper. The paper is also filled with hooks that I could take advice from.

  1. It’s great that you found a source that provides a different perspective on the tragedy and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. However, I was wondering if the source could possibly be biased. Your summary states that the author uses facts and statistics to back up his critical claim. Could this source have changed your perspective on the reaction to Hurricane Katrina?

  2. Great job in constructing your blog post. Having an opposing viewpoint in your article of choice proves to be interesting and showcases your character of not shying away from diving into opposing viewpoints as opposed to just using one article that opposes your view while the other 3 all support yours. The best indication of this is from the phrase “This paper is extremely helpful because it demonstrates another persons perspective on the same subject with the same opinion”. Your addition of the phrase “This can can help me fully form my opinion as well as backing it up with facts” serves to not only close that portion of your post, but, serves to bolster your narration. Once again Great job.

  3. This is really good, i liked the way you described the article, but not fully. It makes me now want to go read the article. I think its crazy how nature can do this. I want to know the 2 different peoples perspective on what happened.

  4. Great work on your blog post! Why do you think the response was handled poorly? Is this because of who was leading the charge on the response? Maybe talk about what you would have done differently. Statistics and facts are always helpful from a source as long as they are not biases, so be careful!

  5. I really enjoyed how you summarized the details of the article without really giving away any major points immediately. I wonder if maybe the source is more opinion based than fact based, but you mentioned that it holds statistics and research points, which makes it easier to trust and believe. To further your claims and agreements with the article, do you believe that the situation was handled poorly because of leadership or some other reasons?

  6. The topic you chose has most definitely sparked my interests. I always wonder about natural disasters, and how their impending attacks impact communities. I think you did a great job reflecting on all the ways this source could help you, including stats, hooks, and backed up facts. I wonder if your source is biased, considering it only shows one side of the story. I believe that it is fine if this source carries a slight bias, as long as you are able to find another source to represent the other side. Overall, your
