Happy Holidays!

Seasons greetings! Welcome back to Paint Wars. Today, I only have a little bit to talk about before we jump right into things. This week is holidays and festivities. I picked to do a poem  because as you probably know by now, writing is one of my passions. I love poems and I picked a Christmas/wintertime poem. Writing poems is one of my favorite things to do because poems are so free and you can write a poem about anything you want. My favorite holiday is Christmas because we get to spend time with our families and we get to give and recieve gifts. Feel free to comment about your favorite time of year when you’ve finished reading my poem.  Mine is winter. I love the snow!! Also, make sure to click on the hyperlink to fill out the form I created (It’s a picture). Enjoy the poem!!!

We sit around the fire

Crackle, pop.

Dark bronze chocolate sits in front of me,

Little chalky balls of happiness float in the milky substance.

Flames crack and the TV is busy projecting The Polar Express.

The ground outside is frosted with pearly white snow

A Christmas tree sits in the corner, with hundreds of bulbs

Made by the kids over the years.

The house is warm and cozy

My silky pajama pants braising against my legs

Keeping me warm

 in the cold Virginia weather.

Christmas lights twinkle outside my bedroom window

Red, white, green

Why even some of them are pink.

The street is lit up with little balls of flair.

Snow falls gently to the ground

A call comes in, we have no school tomorrow.

No books and binders galore

No waiting for hours on end for the bell to ring

Just a cozy home with a working fireplace

And a working TV and heater

And love

All around

Pleasant music is playing in the background

My dad’s entire family is here

Showing off, laughing

The cousins are checking out the house that they never get to see

My dad plays a slow song on the piano

And my mom opens a bottle of wine

My grandparents tell me and my cousins how big we have gotten

You know, the usual.

Then dinner is served.

Ham, bread, pasta, with a finishing touch of pie.

Apple, shoo-fly, and pumpkin.

Minced meat for the grandparents.

We wander into the family room

To put out the milk and cookies

In hopes that Santa will come tonight.

We run upstairs to go to sleep.

There is almost no patience left in me.

What will I get?

Will others like the gifts I gave them?

Christmas morning we sit in front of the fire

In our pajamas with our stockings and our gifts.

We are ready to open the gifts!

The siblings complain about who gets to go open something first.

The oven beeps in the kitchen.

The french toast casserole is ready.

We sprinkle powdered sugar over our french toast

And we run to the airport to pick up the second load of grandparents.

This is a normal Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at my house.

Snow, happiness, fighting.

What are holidays like at your  house?
