Poetic Book Buzz of
Livia Blackburne’s
Midnight Thief
by Chloe Park – Brambleton Middle School
Kyra…
She’s small, but don’t underestimate what’s beneath the surface
She steals, but don’t judge before you understand
She might not have much, but when the moon comes up at night the shadows welcome her home
She’s silent, but when she speaks her words could topple a nation
She was born to be great, but she lost so much on the way
Now it seems her destiny is to stay hidden, but that is not her way
Will she choose to fight back or will she stay the same?
Waiting in the shadows, she stalks the palace grounds
When she does the unthinkable, she questions everything she believes in
She needs to break free, but the chains that bind her cannot be broken
She knows it’s wrong, but she can’t afford to fail
She is caught
She’s terrified, but not for herself
She knows to survive, she needs to play their game
In order to save them from the fate she almost had
But are they the ones who need saving?
The fire, it burned through the night
The fire, it took everything from her
The fire, it awakened her rage
Now the fire, it will pay
Grieving, she must protect the chains that bound her
Grieving, she must avenge the one she lost
She creeps unnoticed to the place she swore never to go back to
She walks unafraid toward the danger
Will they break her?
