To finish off the shortened 2020 MLB Season, the one seeded Tampa Bay Rays faced off against the one seeded Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The Dodgers: a team loaded with stars. The Rays: a team with one third of the Dodgers payroll. Both teams after the World Series trophy.
Game one of the World Series wasn’t too close of a game. The Dodgers walked away victorious by the score of eight to three. Tampa Bay came right back in game two. Getting ahead five to nothing early, and winning by the final score of six to four. In game three, the Dodgers came roaring back. Putting their foot on the gas pedal early and never letting go. Winning by the score of six to two.
Then game four. By far the most exciting game of the World Series. The Dodgers jumped out to a two to nothing lead early, and lead four to two whenever Brandon Lowe stepped up to the plate in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Lowe hit a three run home run to give the Rays a five to three lead. That lead, however was not safe. The Dodgers came right back, scoring two runs of their own, they then lead six to five. In the bottom half of the seventh inning, Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier hit a game tying home run. The Dodgers, however, took the lead right back in the top half of the eighth when Shortstop Corey Seager hit a bloop single that scored Chris Taylor from second base. Then in the bottom of the ninth, one of the craziest plays in baseball history occurs. Down to his final strike, Brett Phillips hits a single into right-center field. Chris Taylor bobbles the ball as he is going to field it. One run scores. Then the other runner, Randy Arozarena, is caught between third and first, as he fell while running home. The Dodgers’ first baseman Max Muncy throws the ball to Catcher Will Smith on a relay, but Smith missed the ball. Arozarena scored. The Rays won.
Sadly for the Rays, the final two games went to Dodgers, where they won four to two in game five and three to one in game six. The World Series MVP award was given to Dodgers’ Shortstop Corey Seager.
