Alan Turing Featured On New £50 Note

The new £50 note design was recently unveiled, and it features Alan Turing, mathematician and cryptographer who was well known for cracking the Enigma code during WWII. This means that Turing will be the first gay man as well as the first mathematician to be featured on UK’s currency.

“Yay, I guess, but it seems pretty performative when he was treated horribly for his sexuality while he was still alive,” a student, Noah, who gave no last name, said. “Like wouldn’t it be better to enact anti-discrimination laws and stuff instead of just doing the bare minimum and patting themselves on the back?”

The note will begin circulating among other UK currency on Turing’s birthday, June 23rd.
