On Friday night, Minnesota traveled to College Park, Maryland, to play the winless Terrapins for the Terrapins’ home opener. Minnesota came into the game the heavy favorite to win, and Maryland was coming off a rough loss the week prior to Northwestern. Maryland started off well, and after the first quarter, they lead 21-7. The next two quarters, however, Minnesota dominated, turning their 21-7 deficit to a 38-21 lead. The fourth quarter was a big one for Maryland. They tied the game up 38-38 to force overtime. Minnesota won the coin toss and decided to play defense first. Maryland scored a touchdown thanks to a pass interference call and a touchdown run from freshman quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. They made the extra point and lead 45-44. Minnesota, also with the help of a pass interference call, scored a touchdown of their own. Then they attempted the extra point. The kick missed wide right and Maryland won 45-44.
