‘Murder Hornets’ Spotted In The US

‘Murder Hornets’, or Asian giant hornets (Vespa mandarinia), have been spotted in Washington state twice in early December of 2019. They are 2-inch long hornets whose venomous sting is powerful enough to kill humans. On average, 5o people die a year in Japan due to the sting of an Asian giant hornet. The hornet hunts on honeybees by invading their nests and killing the entire colony. Experts assume that the hornets are here to stay.
