Swedish 16 year old, Greta Thunberg, has been awarded with TIME’s Person of the Year award. The award is an annual issue of the TIME’s magazine, featuring a person or group that has had the most influence on event through the year. Thunberg, an activist for climate change, has been a large figure in promoting the need for global action. Through skipping school, speaking to world leaders, and speaking at many conventions, she has devoted a large amount of the year to promoting change.

With her very young appearance, many view Thunberg as a small child taking on a challenge too large for someone like her to handle. In addition to that, she has Asperger’s syndrome, which makes it hard for her be on the same emotional wavelength as others. However, she doesn’t let that phase her, instead it has helped her become a global sensation. She continues to defy odds against her and political figures who speak out against her and her work towards promoting a better planet has had a large impact on the world.
