The Guardians

TIME Magazine’s has chosen journalists to be their 2018 Persons of The Year. Specifically, the magazine focuses on Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Rappler News chief Maria Ressa, Reuters Journalists Kyaw Soe Oo and Wa Lone, and members of Capital Gazette news. The title for the 2018 edition is “The Guardians and The War on Truth.”

“Worldwide, a record number of journalists-262 in total-were imprisoned in 2017,” said TIME. “[the Committee to Protect Journalists] expects the total to be high again this year.”

This is not the first time TIME has featured a group of people to be the face of their Person of The Year edition. Last year, TIME featured the #METoo movement and women that had spoken out about sexual assault as the face of their campaign.

The criteria for determining said person(s) has been stated to be a person, object, or idea that has “for better or worse influenced the events of this year.”

With a focus on the dubbed “War on Truth” and the dangers of good journalism, TIME has surely chosen an important Person of The Year for 2018.
