Trying to Beat the Heat

Virginia is soon to be heading into autumn. However, summer wants to make sure that students know they have a few weeks left until cooler temperatures. This past Tuesday, students experienced the wrath of summer. While the temperature was technically in the mid-nineties, the humidity made it feel like it was over 100 degrees.

Many sports and extracurriculars at Champe were canceled or postponed. However, some tried all that they could to beat the heat. Some sports still went outside but were told by administration that there would have to be water breaks every fifteen minutes. Other extracurriculars such as marching band practiced inside for an hour and then headed outside once the temperature became manageable. Temperatures for the next week will still be in the mid-eighties and upper nineties, but there will be thunderstorms that may suppress the heat.
