MLB News 3

The Rays decided to put Sergio Romo, a relief pitcher in to start a game. Personally I do not care about the Rays or Sergio Romo, but there was a lot of backlash directed towards the Rays coach, saying that he is putting Romo’s arm at risk of injury. (He had previously pitched the night before). I think that as long as the Nats do not start doing it, go wild.

Two players have gone yard in their first game this week, one of which being the Nats own Juan Soto. He took a Padres pitcher deep in his first at bat as a big leaguer and his future is looking bright. I would talk about that other dude but I feel like the Nats are not getting the coverage that I like and this dude is stealing all of the shine, so here Juan, here is your shine.

The Mets are continuing their legacy as a bad team by signing a player dropped by the Braves for batting .143 this month. You might recognize the name though, any baseball fan knows the bat flipping Jose Bautista. Also, LOLMets.

The Ray’s Carlos Gomez said about drug testing that it is not random and that they, “Just pick guys.” This is not entirely a surprise, because there was not a reason that the league tested Eric Thames multiple times last year, even after he passed the first time.

MLB News 2

The MLB is cracking down on cleats creating a situation where players are angry because they are not allowed to wear their customized cleats. Certain players like Ben Zobrist, who wears old fashioned all black cleats to celebrate the game’s past, have received letters from the league telling them that they need to change the colors to be at least 51% of the team’s primary color.

The Supreme Court has uplifted the ban on betting on professional sports games. This is across all sports, but is especially important to baseball because of Pete Rose, who was banned for betting on games. So the question of whether he should or should not be elected into the Hall of Fame.

Mariner’s second baseman Robinson Cano has been suspended 80 games for being caught with performance enhancing drugs. This is big news as he is a major part of their roster and potentially a future hall of famer.

Jake Arrieta to the Phillies

Jake Arrieta signed a three year deal to the Phillies for $75 million dollars all of it guaranteed. What does this mean for the NL East?

It is really only impacting the Nationals and maybe the Braves, because they are the only two other competitors in the NL East. The Braves have become competitors after a less than average team by acquiring as much young talent as they can. But, they still probably will not be able to compete with the All Star line up that the Nationals have made. So the real question here is, what does this mean to the Nationals?

Personally, I think that it is a good thing to have at least one competitive team for the Nats. There is too easy a walk into the playoffs for the Nationals, resulting in them choking in the playoffs every year. So does this mean that Dusty Baker’s firing was justifiable on the circumstances that resulted in his release, no, but that is a discussion for another time.

Chord Progressions

Previously, we learned about major and minor chords. Every major and minor chord has a scale of 8 notes, a major goes whole note then whole note then half note, then three whole notes and another half note. What you can do with that scale is pick three keys and figure out the chords of that scale. Certain notes on that scale are either major minor or diminished, and you may look up which notes are major and minor. The first, third, and fifth notes of a scale normally sound good, but if you want to stray from the beaten path you can experiment with the sixth or the fourth or whatever you want to do. You can also change the keys if you play a note in two different keys. The way to do that is to play a chord that is similar to that of another key  right next to the first key in the circle of fifths. The circle of fifths is a circle where every note that is the fifth is written after the original note in a circular pattern until it is a complete circle. You will know when you have drawn the circle of fifths correctly because it starts with c, which has zero sharps or flats, then it goes to g (the fifth of the c scale), which has 1 sharp in its scale. Then the circle goes to d (the fifth of g) which has 2 sharps in the scale. The pattern continues until eventually it goes full circle.

So the main lesson is, free style until you find a fun melody, then find the scale that melody is in, and make a nice left handed pattern to it so that you can show your friends and marvel at how cool you are.

Spring Training is a few days away!

The Spring Training countdown is now at 5 days, and plenty of baseball fans all over the country are impatiently waiting for the glorious baseball season to return. Sorry Philadelphia, but if you were hoping for two champs in the same year, the Phillies are looking to disappoint (again).

With the return of spring training finally upon us, we are in a difficult situation. There are a lot of free agents right now. A LOT. Which means that there is only so much fun the baseball season can get. Personally, I think the idea of having a separate spring training for all of the free agents would be really good, except for the bad-for-baseball agent Scot Boras is not letting any of his clients play in the new free agent spring training. This means that big names like Eric Hosmer will be hidden from the public eye in Boras’ secret liar where the players just won’t be able to play with the other teams. I think that this is bad for baseball because the fans will miss out on seeing some of their favorite players from across the league.
