MLB News

Welcome to the MLB News where I cover all of the newest of news from around Major League Baseball.

First things first, Francisco Lindor shaved his head. Which may not seem anything but stupid to a random passerby but his hair is something of a signature for him. He lost it by betting his old high school team he would shave his head if they had a perfect season, in which they went 25-0. LaVar Ball would be proud.

Shohei Ohtani is still proving that he is one of the game’s finest, and some of the hype is finally died down so I feel like I can truly appreciate how good of a player he is without people everywhere kissing the floor he walks on like it is made out of gold.

The Mariners have decided that Ichiro should be a bench coach for two games after being moved to a front office role a week ago. He also received a congratulatory text from this random guy named Tom Brady, to which he responded, “Who the **** is Tom Brady?”

The Mets batted out of order yesterday, erasing a double by Asdrubal Cabrera. After finally starting to cool off, this comes as great news for Nats fans like me, and those other teams in the NL East that will probably miss the playoffs. Again. The Mets also DFA’d Matt Harvey proving that the Mets will always Met.

The Yankees have caught up to the Red Sox and are now tied for first place. I predict 5048572545739 more articles talking about how tall Aaron Judge is with 3 puns each. They will probably talk about Giancarlo Stanton too, well they would if he was not striking out 5 times per game.

James Paxton threw a no hitter, the 2nd of the season. This makes him the only player to ever have a bald eagle land on a pitcher who throws a no hitter later that season. Probably. There is not anything more american than that.

At a Phillies game an American Ninja Warrior commentator threw out the first pitch and it was terrible. He bounced it 40 feet in front of the plate and almost hit a camera man. People are saying it might be as bad as 50 cent’s but I do not think anything could beat that.

The Cardinals’ Yadier Molina took a ball to the bungalows and he had to have emergency surgery, taking him out for a couple weeks. They then bought bulletproof cups called Nutshellz. You are welcome.

The Unwritten Rules of baseball

In baseball there are a lot of things that you just do not do. They may seem reasonable at a first glance, but it really is just smart to break these “unwritten rules” and it could help you win a game. Sure you might get criticized for it, but the people who criticize you for breaking the rules do not understand what it takes to get to the top of the top.

First, when a pitcher is throwing a gem, you are not supposed to bunt for a base hit. Why? If it is a close game, your team has reached base once and has not been able to get past second, why are you now limited in what you can do if it is a close game? If you successfully lay down a bunt and beat out the throw, I would argue that it would actually be even harder to reach base than getting a base hit, because when the pitcher is throwing a gem, the defense is on their toes and they are more involved than if their team is down or up 10 runs. It just does not make any sense.

Next, if you are going to put a position player in to pitch, you better not put him in when you are up. That does not make any sense. Pitchers are getting hurt more frequently than ever, and if you do not want to try to waste any arms in your bullpen, why can you not put a player in? Because it is disrespectful? If you think it is disrespectful, maybe try scoring runs? Maybe take advantage of the fact that there is a player on the mound that probably has not pitched since college or before that and try to get some runs? Stop whining and get good.

Now, there are some unwritten rules that make perfect sense. Like stealing a base when you are really far ahead. If you are up 15 and steal a base, it is just rubbing salt in a wound, especially since baseball is the only sport where a team can not just run the clock down. However, the rule of not being able to steal a base when you are greatly behind is very dumb. Why wouldn’t you try to get back into the game and make it competitive? That’s just giving up which is not something that anybody likes to do in major league baseball.

I left out superstitions because the superstitious ones make sense to me, like why would you take any risks to not have something good happen to your team? But I can write a separate blog on that at another time.

Ichiro

Ichiro Suzuki just got a deal with the Seattle Mariners. Wow.

For those unfamiliar with who Ichiro is, he is a baseball legend that just signed a one year deal with the Seattle Mariners, the team that brought him over from Japan after ten years of playing overseas. Ichiro is currently 44, and is almost a guaranteed first ballot hall of famer. This season will be his 17th, and is only the second player to ever win rookie of the year and most valuable player in the same year. Historically, he has been one of the greatest outfielders to ever play the game. The issue is that he is on a decline, and has been for years. Last year he only pinch hit a little over 100 times for the Marlins and that is it. Granted, he broke the record for most pinch hits in a season, but people are beginning to wonder when he is going to call it quits. They were wondering when he is going to call it quits.

A few days ago, Ichiro made a comment saying he wanted to play until he was 50. This season will get him to 45, but at the rate he is declining, and the gigantic amount of young talent in the league right now I do not think he will get signed after this year. The only way is if he has Mike Trout numbers, and I am sorry but I do not think that those numbers are possible for him anymore. And that is not even factoring the huge amount of free agents that will be available this next offseason. So whether or not he wants to play to 50, I do not think it will matter. Nobody will sign him.

Do not get me wrong, I would love to see Ichiro make it to 50 and maybe more, because I have not really begun to be able to see what kind of talent Ichiro brings to the table, and to be honest, he is playing in Seattle so I probably will never, but the amount of new players in the game that can dominate even better than Ichiro makes him nothing more than a second option.

Hello World!!!

My name is Jackson and I am a high schooler in Virginia. I have a passion for baseball and music, and that is what I plan on writing about. Being that I am growing up in Virginia, my favorite baseball team is the Washington Nationals. I also enjoy any genre of music, from rap to rock to country. I don’t just listen to music, I am a musician myself. I play the drums and a little bit of keyboard, but I am still learning. I look forward to writing about my two passions and getting to know everybody!

Thanks,

Jackson
