The Careless Father

The Dad in the Glass Castle is a Drunk but when sober, can possibly have an IQ of Bill Gates from the way the family and kids talk about him. He prefers to live in an isolated place; with not a lot of people around. The manner that he treats his kids is probably not the father way to do things, let them shoot a gun, if injured not take them to a hospital, not live a normal life. What’s your thoughts?

  1. I think the father should not be with them. He is no help. All he is a trouble. With all the moving around, he is not helping them out at all. He is making things worse for them

  2. I feel like her dad was her role model in the beginning of the book. She looked up to him for guidance and advices on life. As life progresses, her dad slowly began to shift away from being a role model and into “I don’t want to be like him”.

  3. I think that as child you always look up to your dad, personally I did, as a kid your father is your whole world. That is why it took Jeannette so long to realize the corruption he brought into their lives. Throughout the book we found ourselves questioning when she would leave her family and why she hadn’t done so yet, but she couldn’t because her father was such a huge figure in her life. She didn’t even see the harm he bought upon her, because she was blind to everything but her imagination of who her father was/pretended to be.
