March Favorites

Since the month of March is coming to an end, I decided to make a playlist dedicated to the songs I’ve listened most to this month.

  1. BANG! – Trippie Redd. Although this song came out mid-August of 2018, I still really enjoy it. This song has a catchy bridge. The bridge then goes into the hook, which is very different than the bridge. BANG! is a good song, and I recommend you listen to it.
  2. Bands (feat. Ohgeesy, Fenix Flexin & Master Kato) – Shoreline Mafia. This is their most popular song. This song was released in mid-July of 2018, but once again, I really enjoy it.
  3. Pull Up – Lil Mosey. This song is relatively old, having been released in early January of 2018. I still really enjoy it and it has a different sound to it, and I recommend you to listen to it.
  4. Mojo So Dope – Kid Cudi. This song is the oldest song I’ll be including in this post, it was released in November of 2010. This song almost has a marching rhythm. It starts off with the beat and goes into Cudi’s first verse, which smoothly transitions to the hook. I really recommend this song, it’s really good.
  5. Whuss The Deal – Shoreline Mafia. I really enjoy Shoreline Mafia’s music. This song is one of my favorites by them. This song starts with a news reporter speaking, which is really interesting. It then goes into the actual song. I recommend you listen to this song.
  6. 20 Min – Lil Uzi Vert. This song starts with the hook, with Uzi alone, then leads to the beat drop. This song is really good. I rate it a 9/10.

Lil Uzi Vert

Image result for the perfect LUV tape

Lil Uzi Vert’s music has been a staple in my life since I was 12. Songs like 7AMTop, and Erase Your Social were my favorite songs all throughout middle school. My favorite summer playlists had a lot of his music in it. Now, LUV announced that he won’t be making any more music. When I saw the post, I was really sad, because since 2015 I had been listening to him. Here are some of my favorite songs of his.

  1. Erase Your Social. This song talks about the come-up to fame and how people used to treat him versus how people treat him now. It starts with a simple melody, then he starts with the hook. I really recommend this song.
  2. Money Longer. This song is well known; released in 2016, Money Longer was in the top charts for 22 weeks, peaking at #9. This song is centered around the idea that Uzi “turned to a savage.”
  3. 7AM. This song is focused on the idea of him being interested in someone else’s significant other.

My Top 10

For today’s blog, I decided to make a list of some of the songs I’ve had on heavy rotation for the past couple of months. These are not in order, although some are better than others, I love all of them equally. I hope you give these songs a listen because they are all very good.

  1. Get Well Soon – Ariana Grande. This song was released in August of 2018, in her album Sweetener. It is in the Pop genre; I don’t like pop, but Ariana is my favorite artist, and she makes really good music. It starts with her singing the hook, then there are snaps, then the first verse comes in. The vocals in this song are very beautiful, there are harmonies and the song flows very smoothly in general. The lyrics are also very nice, they talk about positivity and mental health.
  2. 1950 – King Princess. This song has an oldish sound to it. Although it falls into the pop category, it has a very beautiful sway to it, and I think it would be nice to dance slowly to.
  3. I’m Sorry – Ameer Vann. This single was released in 2016 and is categorized as Hip-Hop/Rap. This song is very personal and raw. At around the 1:35 mark of the song, he stops rapping, and it’s just music. Then a little later, at the 2:00 mark, the beat drops and it gets darker. The electric guitar comes in strumming chords in a complex but beautiful pattern, then the song suddenly stops.
  4. Rose Golden – Kid Cudi (feat. Willow Smith). Released in 2016, this unique song falls into the Hip-Hop/Rap category. I’ve always admired Kid Cudi’s style, he’s very unique and manages to keep rap in his borderline alternative music. Willow sings the chorus, and it makes you feel special and connected with yourself and the universe while you’re listening to it.
  5. While We’re Young – Jhené Aiko. Released in 2017, this song is in the R&B/Soul. This song talks about love and how people should enjoy everything they can for as long as they can while they’re young.
  6. Come Back To Earth – Mac Miller. Mac’s music is very diverse, this song came out in his album swimming, in 2018. The song is not rap, although it falls under the Hip-Hop/Rap category. It’s a very slow and relaxing song.
  7. She – Tyler, The Creator (feat. Frank Ocean)This song starts off with Tyler’s first verse, then Frank Ocean comes in the chorus. This song has a very nice tune and beat to it.
  8. RENTAL – BROCKHAMPTON. Falling into the Hip-Hop/Rap category, this song was released in 2017. Unlike a lot of their other songs, this song is more upbeat and happy, and I really like it.
  9. A Song For Her – Phora. This song is a much older one. I remember listening to it with my older sister when I was around 9 and I loved it. It’s a nice song that starts off with a guitar pattern, then a beat comes in, and Phora comes in with his first verse.
  10. Love – Keyshia Cole. This song is really old, and my sister would play it for me when I was growing up. This song was released in 2005 and is categorized as R&B/Soul. This song has really beautiful vocals and a catchy chorus. I love this song because it perfectly describes how love feels. Overall, I think it’s a cute song.

Music With a Purpose

There are many different genres, many different types of music. Some songs’ lyrics are straight garbage and have a really bad message. I am christian and I believe that christian music is good for the soul, listening to christian music makes me feel so good, it makes me feel so at peace. I love it because nothing else can make me feel this way. Not everyone has the same beliefs as me, and that is fine, but I have a few songs that give me peace and give me a lot of comfort.

I will talk about Touch of Heaven. I love this song because I remember when i first heard it, all I wanted was to get closer to God. To me, being close to God means I am happier, I am kinder, and I feel an inexplainable happiness. The buildup to the chorus goes “Lord, I know my heart wants more of you, my heart wants something new”. When I am close and connected to God, I feel like nothing can make me sad, nothing can disrupt my state of mind, until I go and do things that I know God wouldn’t like. When I am not as close to God as I should be, I feel like I am not happy, and I just feel like a lot of things are wrong. “All I want is to be within your love, be undone by who you are, my desire is to know you deeper. Lord, I will open up again, throw my fears into the wind, I am desperate for a touch of heaven”. This to me, is the most beautiful chorus. I feel this way because as I have said many times, when I am connected to God, I am happy. When I am not connected to God, I am not happy. God is so special to me, having grown up in a christian household, I believe that God created the world and almost everything I see. God really amazes me.

BROCKHAMPTON

Maybe you all saw this coming, maybe you didn’t, but here is my review of Brockhampton. I wanted to post about them, but I was afraid that people would think I’m one of those kids who listen to brockhtapmton and only wear vans and think everyone and everything is too “local” or “mainstream” for them. The truth is that normally, kids who listen to this band are (fake) edgy ™️ and think they’re cooler than everyone else solely because they listen to this band.

I’m going to be honest; I don’t really know everyone in the band, I only know Kevin Abstract (who is very attractive). I also am not one of those kids, I just happen to really enjoy their music.

I can’t tell you what my favorite song of theirs is, I honestly can’t pick. Some of my favorite, however, are SOMETHING ABOUT HIM, WEIGHT, Face, SUMMER, and RENTAL. Although I like all of their songs, these are the ones that stand out to me the most.

SOMETHING ABOUT HIM is how some of the members feel feel about a certain boy. They talk about “his kind eyes”, which to me is a really great song to listen to when I’m in a lovey-dovey mood. Some of the members are a part of the LGBT community which I think is something that really sets them apart, and they are just not your typical boy band.

WEIGHT talks about, well, the emotional weight that the members may feel on their shoulders. It doesn’t much of an actual beat like most of their other songs. This song is more slow and has a violin and is slow and smooth. They reminisce a lot in this song, thinking back to better times. One of the verses in this song is really interesting, because although I myself am not a part of the LGBT community, it gives me an insight to what it may be like, and how it may feel, being afraid to come out. The verse says ”I was pressed because my shorty gave me cold signs,” this may mean she’s giving him cold signs because she knows he isn’t attracted to her. “I was writing poems ‘bout a dawg in study hall,” this really interested me because there are a lot of people who go through the same thing, being afraid to come out, and secretly thinking about their friend romantically even though it would be embarrassing for them to come out. “And she was mad cause I never wanted to show her off,” this to me means that he doesn’t want to introduce his girlfriend because he’s not attracted to her in the first place. “… I thought I had a problem, kept my head inside a pillow screaming:” This makes me really sad because as I said before, there are kids struggling with their sexuality, afraid to come out. It then goes on to the chorus which says “I don’t want to waste no more time, I’m letting go,” I really love this part because I resonate with it a lot. This year my resolution was to really try to grow and be a better person. To do this, I was going to let go of all the weight and hurt others had caused me, and even I caused myself. After the chorus comes, the beat drops and the whole song just flows really nicely.

Face, one of their older songs, was released in early 2017, almost 2 years ago, and is still one of my favorite songs by them. I really love this song because the lyrics are really beautiful. It starts with a drum and then it goes to the beat drop and the lyrics come. It’s a member singing, “tell me what you’re waiting for, I just want to love you, I just want to hold you, tell me what you’re waiting for, I just want to love you, just want to hold you, never would lie to you.” This to me is really beautiful to listen to because the melody of this part is really pretty, soft and relaxing. “You make it warm in my bed butterflies in my head,” this follows the chorus. After this part is a much sadder turn, “but you don’t love me like you say you do, white lies hold then hidden truth, you keep leaving when I need you most”. This upsets because I actually resonate with this, as sad as that may sound. I overall really love this song because this is the first BROCKHAMPTON song I listened to.

SUMMER is a really beautiful song that starts off with a few simple chords, then builds into a slow and calming beat. It says “you know that you should be my boy, in the heat of the summer, you’re so different from the rest”. I think this is talking about a summer fling, and it honestly reminds me of a warm, starry summer night. It has kind of a rock feel, but it really is a beautiful song, perfect to listen to while falling asleep.

One of my absolute favorite songs, and the last song I’ll be talking about is RENTAL. I really like this song because it reminds me of a friend. I sometimes connect music to people and it makes our bond stronger. Rental is one of BROCKHAMPTON’s more happier songs, per se. it is definitely the most upbeat of all the songs I talked about, and the lyrics are a little bit more positive and just all around happier. I like playing this song in the car when I’m driving (with parental supervision of course) and it makes me really happy.

BROCKHAMPTON is a really great band, and they are a really talented group. They have a song for every mood and I really recommend you listen to their songs, especially the ones I talked about.

Hoodie Szn

‘Hoodie Szn’ is an album that was recently released by A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. His album has 20 songs and I, personally, like them all. There are some that I like more than others, but all of his songs are thoroughly worked on. A Boogie says that his previous albums were about heartbreak, but he says Hoodie Szn has “a balance of street and love” unlike his Artist series. The most popular songs in his album are Swervin (feat. 6ix9ine), Startender (feat. Offset and Tyga), Demons and Angels (feat. JUICE WRLD), and my personal favorite, Look Back at It. A Boogie says he draws heavy inspiration from Michael Jackson, and that he’s always wanted to sample a song of his. For Hoodie Szn, he finally got to do so.

The first song of the four I’ll be talking about is Swervin (feat. 6ix9ine). This song talks about how A Boogie feels about a certain girl and how he admires her. The first verse says “how you look so perfect on your worst days?” One of my favorite songs in the album, I Did It, he talks about how he doesn’t trust females, or anyone. He also talks about how he’s hurt in general. Startender (feat. Offset and Tyga), is about how ‘fly’ a certain female is and how cool they are. Demons and Angels (feat. JUICE WRLD) talks about how no one should mess with them, because they have connections. Lastly, my favorite song of the album, Look Back at It. I, personally, love this song because it reminds me of someone, but it’s a really good song. This song talks about how infatuated he is with a girl and how much he likes her. Overall, I would rate this album a 8 out of 10, just because I like the artist himself. I asked other people how they feel about it, and they said they liked the most popular songs. I recommend listening to I did it, Swervin, and Look Back at It.

A$AP Rocky

I love a lot of different types of music. I like hip pop, rap, alternative, you name it. My favorite hip hop artist is A$AP Rocky. I like his music because it is very different from any other artists. In some of his songs, he has a mellower tone, with lyrics about love. ‘L$D’ is a perfect example of one of his more mellow songs. Released in 2015, this song talks about a girl he has feelings for, or the actual drug LSD. A more recent and upbeat song of his is ‘Praise the Lord (Da Shine)’. This song talks about getting your money and working, then praising the lord for what he has given you. Rocky’s music is very diverse, and he has a lot of features. He is also a part of A$AP mob, which is a group of popular hip hop artists. A$AP Rocky is very talented, and his personal views are also really interesting.

connecting with people through music

There are many new conversation starters and ways to connect to people. In my opinion, talking to someone about music is one of the best ways to get to know someone. Certain people will reveal a lot about themselves based off what they tell you about their music taste. I, personally, love music and can listen to almost every genre, so when I talk about my music taste with people, gives a lot of topics to talk about, including what kind of artists we listen to. If someone likes a certain artist a lot, I can see what type of person the artist is. If the person I’m talking to likes that artist a lot, I can see the type of person they are. Music is a really good conversation starter.

blog one: feelings and music

Music, as most of us know, is very powerful. Some therapists even use music to help their  It can control the way you feel. Some people are very driven by their emotions. If your feelings can control the way you act, then music can, too.  Music is can get people through hard times, it can make them feel better about things, depending on the tone of the song. Music can inspire people to do many things, and sometimes can heal relationships. For example, the other day, I listened to “Blue” by Beyoncé. The song is about a mother and her child. When I heard this song, it inspired me to have a better relationship with my mother. Music is very powerful.
