This is my 100 word challenge for May 7th. The prompt was this phrase “suddenly, darkness enveloped the room”

I paced the room, impatiently waiting for the guards to respond to the midnight check. The dim hum of the fluorescent lights above calmed my nerves in a strange way that made this place feel like home. I called out one more time on the radio for any guards working to check in. There was no response yet again. I heard a loud pop as all of the lights above fell silent and then suddenly, darkness enveloped the room. I knew what this meant and I turned on the portable generator in the room to send out one final signal.
