Freedom football flies to victory over Independence

The offensive line gets ready for one of the last plays of the third quarter.

It was the first home game of the season, and the bleachers were filled with cheering fans. The Freedom Frenzy stood at the front of the enthusiastic student section, dressed in all black, a stark contrast to the red sea of Independence High School fans across the way on the away bleachers. On Friday, Sept. 6, the Freedom football team scored their first victory in over a year. In an exciting game with a final score of 54-20, the Eagles bonded together as a team to beat their new rivals, the Independence Tigers.

Justin Sheppard, #30, goes in for a tackle during the second quarter.

There were multiple key players in the game, with Angelo Easter scoring three touchdowns, Christian Poland scoring two, and Nathan Chen, Tyler Knapp and Coley Villagomez each scoring one of their own. Andrew Heer was also responsible for points for the team, successfully making multiple extra point kicks after touchdowns. But the game was not a solo game, the whole team worked together to make sure they came away with a win.

The Varsity football team will play at Stone Bridge on the Friday, Sept. 27.

Preston Tang, #11, lines up to run a route during the game on Friday.

Senior Austin Roberts cheers enthusiastically after Freedom completes a successful pass.
