Freedom Eagles Boys Varsity Soccer team took on Stone Bridge at Broad Run High School on May 20 in the District Tournament. Before this game, the Freedom boys had a record of 10-5-1 this season and Stone Bridge had a record of 2-11-0.
In the first quarter, Stone Bridge’s team shot a free kick, which was caught by Freedom’s goalie Jack Sirmenis. Twenty minutes into the first half, Nathan Mitchell scored a goal with an assist by Paul Jasper.
The game remained 1-0 for a while with attempted passes and shots from both teams. Another goal was scored by Andrew Strait, making the score 2-0 Freedom. Late into the second half, SBHS scored a goal. Four minutes left in the game, a penalty kick was shot by Jason Cruz and Strait scored another goal, making the final score 4-1, bringing an end to the game with a win for Freedom.
The boys are left with a win, leading them to their next game on May 22, against Broad Run High School at John Champe High School. After this win, Freedom’s record moved to 11-5-1 and Stone Bridge was left with a record of 2-12-0.
Freedom will have one more game against Briar Woods on May 31, and then will be playing in the State Tournament against Massaponax High School in Massaponax on June 4.
