With only three months of school left, the graduation planned for the senior class of 2021 has been updated and changed. On Tuesday, March 2, Loudoun County Public Schools announced that the Eagle Bank Arena has decided not to host any LCPS graduations this year due to state wide COVID-19 restrictions.

Graduation will now most likely happen at Freedom High School either in the building or the stadium, but the LCPS Administration is going to develop a consistent countywide plan so all LCPS schools can have a consistent format.

With 565 graduates at FHS and four allowed guests per student, there is a possibility close to 3,000 people could be attending graduation. Since LCPS facilities cannot fit that many people with or without social distancing or have sufficient space for parking, there will likely be multiple smaller ceremonies or an individual private ceremony much like last year.

“While it is disappointing I may not be able to graduate with my whole class, safety is definitely a priority right now” said senior Erika Strobel.

The FHS 2021 class representatives are still trying to make graduation special while holding polls on their Instagram @fhsclassof2021 answering any questions and asking students what they would like to see at graduation.

While no official plan is confirmed, LCPS is working on figuring out a solution to make graduation special for each student while remaining safe during the pandemic.
