As the year begins, a new class of students also begin their last year at Freedom High School. Although there are setbacks due to COVID-19, the leaders such as SCA and the class officers are doing their best to keep traditions within the Freedom community.

Senior class president, Jake Beyer, has been working with the administration to put on events and activities for his fellow seniors.

“A majority of the cool and fun events will have to be newly created this year, as we steer away from tradition and innovate new ideas that work for our current environment,” Beyer said.

All activities will follow the guidelines and measures that are put in by Loudoun County. These measures were put into place for the recent senior movie night and will continue to be used to ensure the safety of FHS students and staff.

“Getting people on campus to gather for events is remarkably challenging, as we have to not only ensure people travel in one car by themselves, that they get their temperature checked, and that they fill out the pre-activity form, but we also have to keep them socially distant from one another,” Beyer said.

While the world continues to battle against COVID-19, Beyer hopes to maintain some consistency and connection within the class.

“Due to COVID and virtual learning, a lot of that connection is cut out,” Beyer said. “The seniors need class events more than ever in order to get a chance to feel connected, loved, and unified, for this is the last year in our lives that we will get to be high schoolers together.”
