Following the coronavirus outbreak and the rescheduled elections that followed, the Freedom Student Council Association has elected its new officers for the 2020-2021 school year.
Taking over from president of the organization Austin Roberts, long term member and former treasurer Neeharika Yallayi will take the helm of an SCA which attempts to garner school spirit during difficult times.
As a response to the end of in-person classes and presence in the FHS school building, Yallayi and the new SCA officers, in cooperation with the outgoing officers, have implemented a few initiatives to support school spirit. For example, the SCA has been participating in the statewide Virginia SCA spirit days on the organization’s Instagram.
Succeeding Elizabeth Clay will be vice president Haley Adams, who came off a competitive election to win the position. Adams has been in SCA for multiple years, serving as historian for the previous secretariat.
Rounding off the officer positions are secretary Lin Sahu, treasurer Aaron Weidner, and historian Dori Bruno.
SCA will be looking for a strong year to follow up one in which they hosted multiple talent shows and spirit days like the St. Patrick’s Day contest in addition to their usual roles of organizing the Homecoming dance and spirit weeks.
