On Wednesday, Oct. 16, Freedom High School hosted its semi-annual powderpuff volleyball game.
In a powderpuff volleyball game, boys from the junior and senior class play a game of volleyball against each other. Athletes attended morning practices coached by the girls volleyball team to help them prepare for the game.
“The hardest part was waking up early for practice,” senior Nick Westfall said.
This year, many students tried out, resulting in the formation of an A team and B team for each grade. Selection was based on an athlete’s performance during tryouts.
Students from every class gathered in the gym during fourth block to cheer on their friends. SCA president Austin Roberts was the announcer during the game, commenting on the players’ performances and interviewing students in the crowd. Science teacher Debra Savage was the referee.
Both the A and B senior teams kept a lead on the juniors for the entirety of the game.
“It was very fun beating the juniors,” Westfall said.
Despite their loss, the juniors still enjoyed the experience.
“Volleyball is super fun and it’s fun to have a bunch of people come watch you mess around,” junior Ty Carter said. “I’ll for sure do it next year.”
