On Feb. 22, 2019, Freedom’s Indoor track and field state team drove three hours to compete in Hampton, Virginia in the biggest meet of the season. Freedom competed against 49 teams from across Virginia. Athletes raced against their top competition in hopes of bringing home a medal, breaking records, and setting PRs.
Freedom athletes, Ryan Borden, Garrett Dunn-Ford, and Samantha Tiong, achieved these goals as all three were named all-state athletes by placing top eight in their events. Garrett Dunn-Ford won states for the boys shot put, as the only Freedom track athlete to take home the gold this season.

Bailey Elliott is a senior at Freedom High School and the sports editor for the News/Magazine, Uncaged. Bailey runs varsity cross country, indoor and outdoor track for FHS as well as participating in Model United Nations and actively volunteering around the community.
