On Nov. 15, Freedom High School seniors Jack Posey, Zach Myers and Jaelyn Batts all signed their National Letter of Intent to play at their respective Division I institutions. 

Posey, who verbally committed to play lacrosse for Pennsylvania State University back in July, has been an integral part of Freedom’s defense over the past three years. After being selected to attend Under Armour’s prestigious All-American camp, Posey’s stock rose exponentially before eventually joining the Nittany Lions. 

“After visiting Penn State for the first time and meeting with the coaches, I immediately knew that Penn State was the school for me,” Posey said. “Penn State also is a fantastic institution that has all of the majors I am interested in and has the best alumni network in the country, which was important to me when deciding on my school.”

Myers, who has manned Freedom’s defense with Posey, verbally committed to Marquette University in December of 2016. Coaches have touted Myers as a tough, competitive defender who will bring strong leadership to the Golden Eagles.

“Marquette has a great lacrosse team, beautiful campus, and an awesome culture surrounding the school that gives me the best chances to succeed,” Myers said.

Representing the Freedom Girls Basketball program, Batts committed to Boston College after a successful visit to Chestnut Hill. Batts’ commitment to a high major Division I basketball program comes as no surprise to those who have followed her career at Freedom. 

“Boston College was the best fit for me because they have an amazing basketball program that fits my playing style,” Batts said.

After being selected as Loudoun County player of the year and leading Freedom to 27 wins last season, the Eagles of Boston College are excited to be getting a player of Batts’ caliber.

“She is a competitor that is used to winning. I am eager to see her grow as a player and expecting her to be a solid contributor to our program,” Boston College head basketball coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee said.
