During the 2018 season, the Freedom girls varsity lacrosse team won the state championship game. They defeated the Atlee High School Raiders with a final score of 9-8, becoming the first Freedom girls lacrosse team to earn a championship title. The players received their championship rings on Monday, Sept. 9, and will be recognized at the football game on Friday, Sept. 21.
“When the horn went off, I was in complete disbelief,” senior Megan Pelletier said. “The next thing I know I was crying and hugging Colleen.”
“It was the most exciting moment of my life,” senior Colleen Novotny said. “I felt the adrenaline hit me and the realization that we had won. All of the hard work we had put into the season came in the form of happy tears.”
Both Pelletier and Novotny have played Freedom lacrosse since their freshman year, and plan to continue playing throughout their senior season.
