Eight people have died in a shooting at the Valley Transportation Authority light rail yard in San Jose, California. On Wednesday, a gunman, who was also a VTA employee, opened fire at a public transit yard killing eight people and injuring many. The gunman, who has been identified as Sam Cassidy, is believed to have taken his own life according to investigators. While no possible motive has been made public, it is known that Cassidy was familiar with all of his co-workers and they all knew each other well. The names of the victims of the shooting have not been released yet, as further investigation is being held.
President Joseph Biden offered his sympathy towards the families of those involved and once again called for gun reform from Congress. According to the Gun Violence Archive, this shooting is the 232nd shooting where at least four people were shot in the United States this year.
