Every year, the Washington Nationals play the Baltimore Orioles in a series that is known as the ‘Beltway Series’ or the ‘Battle of the Beltway.’ Game one was Strasburg’s return from the IL. The Nationals won that game with relative ease, but the Orioles made it somewhat close by hitting a two run home run off Brad Hand to make it a four to two game in the ninth. That would end up being the score in the Nationals first win of the series. Game two was by far the most exciting game of the series. Down six to one in the third inning, Josh Harrison came up to the plate with the bases loaded. Harrison hit a ball deep to left center field that barely snuck over the wall. Then, in the fourth inning, Ryan Zimmerman stepped up to the plate in a tie game with runners on first and third. He sent a hanging curveball 436 feet into the Orioles’ bullpen to give the Nationals a nine to six lead. The Nationals held onto that lead to win the game twelve to nine. Then, in game three, the offenses showed up early. The Orioles tacked on three runs against Patrick Corbin in the first. Then, in the bottom half, the Nationals tacked on four themselves off of Matt Harvey to take the lead. The Nationals and Orioles both scored two more runs, leading to the Nationals’ six to five win and sweep of the series.
