Madison Bumgarner Threw a No-Hitter… Kind of

On Sunday, April 25th, Madison Bumgarner threw a no-hitter against the Braves during game two of their doubleheader. There is just one issue with that statement. Even though Bumgarner threw a complete game and allowed no hits, doubleheader games during the 2021 season are only 7 innings. In the record books, Bumgarner’s seven inning no-hitter doesn’t count. Fans of baseball have conflicting opinions. On one hand, Bumgarner did everything right. He threw the entire length of a game and allowed no hits. However, countless no-hitters have gone seven or more innings but were ended shortly after. There is no concrete way to determine which one is the correct thing to do, however, this is a truly unique moment in baseball history.
