During the American and National league Championship Series, we were treated to two great series that both came down to a game seven. First, the American League Championship Series. The one seeded Tampa Bay Rays faced off against the six seeded Houston Astros. The Rays quickly jumped out to a three games to none lead. Only one team before had forced a game seven after being down three games to none in a Championship Series. That team was the 2004 Boston Red Sox who went on to win the World Series that year. The Astros showed fight in this series, winning game four by the score of four to three, winning game five by the score of four to three, and game six by the score of seven to four. That comeback lead to a dramatic game seven in which former Astro, Charlie Morton, faced off against Lance McCullers Jr. The Rays won four to two and advanced to their first World Series since 2008.
Now to the National League Championship Series, which was also a very exciting series. The one seeded Los Angeles Dodgers played the two seeded Atlanta Braves. The Braves, kind of like the Rays, got to work quickly, leading three games to one after the first four games. Then the Dodgers came back. They won game five by the score of seven to three and game six by the score of three to one. The Dodgers, like the Astros, forced a game seven. Atlanta got up early two to nothing over the Dodgers after two innings. Then the Dodgers tied the game up at two with a two run single from Catcher Will Smith. The Braves scored again in the fourth inning, they now lead three to two. Then, with runners on second and third base, no one out, and Blake Treinen pitching, the Braves made a very costly blunder. On a groundout to the left side, Dansby Swanson, the runner on third, broke towards home on contact, was tagged out, then Austin Riley, the runner on second, was tagged out going for third. The Braves didn’t score. That turned out to be extremely costly as the Dodgers scored two runs late and won game seven by the score of four to three.
