Marvel recently announced the casting of Iman Vellani, an 18-year old Canadian actress, in their new TV series to be aired on Disney+, Ms. Marvel. This series has been heavily anticipated, ever since Ms. Marvel joined the comic universe back in 2014. The show will center around Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teen. Ms. Marvel was the first Muslim character to lead her own Marvel comic, and once the show is put out, she will MCU’s first onscreen Muslim Superhero.

Although she has some experience at Toronto film festivals, this series will be Vellani’s very first major Hollywood production. Vellani will be working alongside actors Simu Liu from Shang-Chi and the Legend of there Ten Rings, and Tatiana Maslany, who is set to star in the new She-Hulk series. Vellani shared her excitement about being a part of this new project on an Instagram post captioned: “Speechless and excited! Wish me luck”.
