MLB Wild Card Series Recap

The first time ever, the Wild Card round of the MLB Playoffs was played with 16 teams and in a best of three format. The American League Series started playing their games first, starting on September 29, with the National League starting the following the day.

The American League had four series. First, was the three seeded Minnesota Twins against the six seeded Houston Astros. The Astros pulled off the upset, sweeping the Twins, who haven’t won their last 18 playoff games. Next, the one seeded Tampa Bay Rays played the eighth seeded Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays took this series, sweeping the Blue Jays. After that was the two seeded Oakland Athletics against the seven seeded Chicago White Sox. A very competitive series ended with Oakland taking two out of the three games. Lastly, the fourth seeded Cleveland Indians played the fifth seeded New York Yankees. The Yankees swept the Indians, while scoring 22 runs in the process.

The National League Also had four series. First, the two seeded Atlanta Braves played the seven seeded Cincinnati Reds. The Braves swept the Reds, as Cincinnati scored no runs in 22 innings. Next, the three seeded Chicago Cubs Played the six seeded Miami Marlins. Miami pulled off the upset, sweeping the Cubs. Miami stays undefeated in postseason series. After that, the one seeded Los Angeles Dodgers matched up against the eighth seeded Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers overpowered the Brewers, sweeping them with ease Lastly, the four seeded St. Louis Cardinals went against the five seeded San Diego Padres. This was one of the closest series so far. The Cardinals won game one, and lead game two by the score of four to nothing. The Padres, however, didn’t go away. They came back and won that game by the score of eleven to nine, and ended up winning the series two games to one.
